Fiberglass showers and enclosures are very strong compared to other shower enclosures. They are Gelcoated that holds the fiber grains very tight together, which gives the fiberglass its strength. But in time, due to regular wear and tear, the fiberglass tub or shower will start developing cracks or leaks. Majority of the cracks are only aesthetic and do not require to change the whole shower. But if the cracks are neglected, then the tub will start leaking and lead to costly problem.

Replacing the existing shower or tub can be a difficult task and more importantly very expensive. Most of the tubs and shower installed in homes are not easy to remove and require the entire unit to come out. If you are going to take out the whole bathroom then it is easier to just re-do the whole bathroom again. But if your budget does not allow for a complete remodel there are other ways to take care of the cracks.

Shower repair kits
There are many tub and shower repair kits that are a great inexpensive solution to fixing your bathroom. The shower kits come with all the materials required to repair the tub.

Majority of the kits come with different colorants. Colorants are tinting products that color the filling. When you are finish filling the crack, you can match the color of the filling with your tub. Take your time in mixing the color until you have the right color.

For larger cracks and holes, the shower repair kit might not be sufficient. The larger cracks might require some reinforcement mesh. Call a local specialist for assistance with large holes and cracks.

When mixing the materials in your shower repair kit, make sure that you are using disposable cups. The solvents are very hard to clean and it will be easier to just use disposable containers.
